Sanae Yanagi has been working as a sculptor for more than 10 years.
After six years of study (Joshibi University of Art and design and Tokyo Zokei University of Fine Arts and Design) she completed her advanced Diploma of Fine Art in Sculpture in 2002.
"In Japan, I primarily worked in stones such as granite and marble. My topic of predilection is budgerigar. When I was a child, I was surrounded with budgerigars in cages. I had a fascination with both these birds and their cages. For me, the cage is a symbol of the borders of the impenetrable Inside and Outside. My work reproduces this opposition.
In France, where I have been living for 3 years, cultural differences opened new horizons in my work (topics, techniques, materials) and now I am working mainly with wood."
